I don't want to believe a claim that's based on bourgeois distortions, half-truths, and lies; but at the same time we all make mistakes, and all do bad things at times. This can also translate into the actions of countries past and present. No one country has been perfect.
That is to say, that of course socialist countries and leaders have done some wrong. In some cases, mistakes have been made that have led to major losses of life. The question is, how do I separate what's factual from what's unfactual?
I don't want to be a part of the cultish "did nothing wrong" crowd, but I also don't wish to be subject to bourgeois indoctrination.
